Droplet

Your messages get through, even when the network doesn’t.

Droplet connects phones to each other over Bluetooth and Wi‑Fi. Every message hops from device to device until it reaches the right person, end-to-end encrypted.

Pick your colour.

Pink

Free, for Android 8 and later.

Get the highlights.

It hops from phone to phone. Every phone in range passes it on without being able to read it, a few dozen metres at a time.

Voice messages you can replay. Record hands-free, pause, listen back before sending. Or film a round video.

Voice and video calls. As soon as you share a Wi‑Fi network, or one of you has internet.

End-to-end encrypted. Only you and the person you’re talking to hold the keys. They carry messages. They can’t read them.

Groups. Family, class, neighbourhood. Group messages hop from phone to phone too.

One phone. Then every phone around it.

How a message finds its way

  1. You write

No 4G, no Wi‑Fi. The message is encrypted on your phone, then handed to the Droplet devices around you.

  2. It hops from phone to phone

Every phone in range passes it on without being able to read it, a few dozen metres at a time.

  3. It arrives

Dad gets it, even across the neighbourhood. The ticks tell you when he’s read it.

  4. And when the internet is back

Droplet uses the internet too, or Tor to hide who talks to whom. You don’t pick anything: the best route is chosen for you.

Everything you expect from a messenger. Minus the network.

Voice and video calls

Groups

Family, class, neighbourhood. Group messages hop from phone to phone too.

Disappearing messages

They delete themselves, and view-once photos open only once.

Locked chats

Hidden behind your fingerprint, invisible to anyone borrowing your phone.

In ten languages

English, French, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, German, Italian.

Nobody else reads your messages. Not even us.

A message only leaves your phone encrypted. The relays that carry it, and our server when it travels over the internet, only ever see a sealed envelope.

How Droplet protects your messages
Meet at 6 pm outside the station

What a relay sees

  • End-to-end encrypted

Only you and the person you’re talking to hold the keys.

  • A nickname is enough

No phone number, no address book uploaded.

  • Blind relays

They carry messages. They can’t read them.

For the moments the network gives up

  • During an outage

Reach your family when the cell towers are down.

  • In a crowd

Stadium, festival, market: find each other when the network is overloaded.

  • Far from everything

Hiking, villages, building sites: stay reachable with no coverage.

  • No data plan

Travelling or out of data, keep writing anyway.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the internet to use Droplet?

No. Two phones in range talk directly, and every Droplet phone extends the range. The internet is used as well, when it’s there.

How far does a message go?

Each hop covers a few dozen metres, depending on walls and devices. The more Droplet phones around you, the further a message travels.

Can relays read my messages?

No. They carry an encrypted message only the recipient can open. They don’t even know what they’re carrying.

Is Droplet on iPhone?

Not yet: Droplet is available on Android. Keep it installed on your Android devices and it relays for everyone around.
